DySP among five cops injured in mob attack during anti-encroachment drive in J&K's Kathua | KNO

Jammu, Jun 29 (KNO): A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) among five police personnel were injured on Saturday after allegedly being attacked by a mob protesting against an anti-encroachment drive in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, officials said. Officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), district administration assisted by police launched a massive anti encroachment drive in Nagri area of Hiranagar, Kathua to demolish some structures that reportedly were constructed on government land. The locals of the area resisted the drive resulting in hearted exchange between the agitating group and police, the officials said. He said the drive turned violent, and the mob pelted stones on police, resulting in injuring five personnel, including a deputy superintendent. “When the anti-encroachment team started removing illegal structures agitated people putting up on encroached land resorted to stone pelting in which DySP HQ Manjeet Singh including half a dozen police men including women cop were injured, an eyewitness said. SSP Kathua Anayat Ali also reached the spot while heavy force was now deployed in the Nagri area of Kathua. The reinforcements have been rushed to the area to restore law and order, the officials said—(KNO)
